    Short answer

Kindle Unlimited pays authors from the KDP Select Global Fund, shared out by pages read (KENP). The Amazon.com rate authors reported for August 2026 was $0.00489 a page, so 1,000 pages a day earns about $148.88 a month. The rate changes every month and Amazon doesn't publish it, so treat every figure as an estimate.

    How to use it

    1. Choose Pages read if you know your KENP read from your KDP report, or Borrows to work from expected borrows.
    2. Enter pages a day or a month, or borrows a month with your book's KENPC and how much of it readers finish.
    3. Keep the latest month's rate, pick an earlier month, or type your own rate.
    4. Add your ebook price and monthly sales to see Kindle Unlimited next to sales royalties.
    5. Copy the result or the share link. Remember the rate changes every month.

    How it works

Kindle Unlimited readers pay a subscription, not per book. Amazon puts part of that money into the KDP Select Global Fund each month and pays it out by pages read. Your share is your pages read times that month's per-page rate.

    From pages read

Monthly earnings = pages read (KENP) a month x rate per page
    Pages a month = pages a day x 30.4
    Yearly estimate = monthly earnings x 12

Worked example: 1,000 pages a day x 30.4 days = 30,417 pages a month. At the August 2026 rate of $0.00489, that is $148.88 a month, or about $1,786.60 a year if the rate holds.

    From borrows

    Pages a month = borrows x KENPC x read-through %
KENPC counts up to 3,000 pages per reader per book

    Worked example: 100 borrows of a book with a KENPC of 400, read 60% of the way on average, is 100 x 400 x 0.6 = 24,000 pages. At $0.00489 a page you earn $117.48 that month.

    What KENPC means

KENPC is your ebook's page count as Amazon measures it: the same standard font, line height and spacing for every book, so a page means the same thing on a phone or a Kindle. A 300 page KENPC book read cover to cover pays for 300 pages. You find the number on the Promote and Advertise page in your Bookshelf.

    Why this is an estimate

The fund and the number of pages read change every month, so the rate does too. Amazon doesn't publish the rate. The rates here are Amazon.com rates that authors report from their own KDP reports, and other marketplaces pay a different rate. Use them to plan, then check your real figure in your KDP report.

    Questions authors ask

How much does Kindle Unlimited pay per page?

Authors reported $0.00489 a page on Amazon.com for August 2026. Over the last 12 months the rate ran from $0.00418 (January 2026) to $0.00489 (August 2026). That is about $4.89 for every 1,000 pages read.

    What is KENPC?

KENPC means Kindle Edition Normalized Page Count. It is how many pages Amazon says your ebook has, measured with the same standard font, line height and spacing for every book, so a page is the same size everywhere. Images, charts and graphs count too. Find it on the Promote and Advertise page in your KDP Bookshelf. KENP read is the number of those pages readers actually read.

How is the per-page rate worked out?

Each month Amazon sets the KDP Select Global Fund ($66 million for August 2026) and shares it by pages read. The rate is roughly the fund divided by all pages read, and each country gets its own share. Amazon only shows your rate in your KDP report, so the rates here come from authors who share their reports.

How much does one Kindle Unlimited borrow earn?

A borrow earns nothing on its own. You're paid for the pages read, the first time a reader reads them, up to 3,000 pages per reader per book. A reader who finishes a book with a KENPC of 300 earns you about $1.47 at the August 2026 rate. A reader who stops halfway earns half.

Is Kindle Unlimited better than selling the ebook?

It depends on how much gets read. At $0.00489 a page, one sale at $4.99 on the 70% plan earns as much as 670 pages read, and one at $9.99 as much as 1,385. Books in KDP Select still earn sales royalties, but the ebook has to be exclusive to Amazon for each 90-day term.

Does this include the KDP All Stars bonus?

No. The All Stars bonus is extra money on top of the Global Fund ($3,400,000 for August 2026). KDP picks the books that get it using pages read and other reader signals, so most authors don't receive it. KDP's announcements list the fund and the bonus separately, and this estimator uses only the fund's per-page rate.

Why is my rate different from the one here?

Every marketplace has its own rate and currency. The rates here are for Amazon.com in US dollars. Pages read in the UK, Germany or Japan pay a different rate, so an author with many readers abroad sees a different average. Type your own rate from your KDP report into the custom rate field.

When is the new rate announced?

KDP posts the Global Fund for each month in its community announcements around the 15th of the next month. The August 2026 fund was $66 million. Author-reported rates follow once authors see the month in their reports. We add each month as it is confirmed.
