Short answer
Set a goal for 2027, add each book with its finish date, and compare your count to the pace line. A goal of 24 books is two a month. This tracker works out how many you should have finished by today, shows books per month, and saves everything in your own browser.
How to use it
- Pick the year and set how many books you want to read.
- When you finish a book, add its title, author, pages and finish date.
- Check the progress bar, the pace line and the books per month chart.
- Tick off any of the optional prompts when a book fits one.
- Choose Export backup (JSON) now and then, so a cleared browser does not lose your list.
How it works
The tracker counts the books with a finish date inside your challenge year. Your pace compares that count with the share of the year that has passed, using the real length of the year (365 days in 2027, 366 in the 2028 leap year).
Books you should have = goal x (day of the year / days in the year)
Books ahead or behind = books finished - books you should have
Worked example: a goal of 24 books, checked on July 2 2027, is day 183 of 365. 24 x 183 / 365 = 12 books. If you have finished 15, you are 3 ahead, and you need about 1.5 books a month from here to reach 24.
The books per month chart groups finished books by the month of the finish date. Your data is saved in this browser only, and the backup file holds your goal, books and ticked prompts as plain JSON.

Questions authors ask
How many books should I read in a year for a 2027 reading challenge?
Pick a number you can keep up. 24 books is two a month, 12 is one a month and 52 is one a week. Start with a number you are sure you can reach, and raise it later if you get ahead. You can change the goal at any time and the pace updates at once.
How does the tracker work out if I am ahead or behind?
It divides the year into days and multiplies your goal by the share of the year that has passed. With a goal of 24 books, by July 2 (day 183 of 365) you should have 12 books done. Finishing 15 puts you 3 ahead.
Does it handle leap years?
Yes. 2027 has 365 days. 2028 is a leap year with 366 days, so the tracker counts February 29 and spreads the goal over 366 days instead.
Where is my reading list saved?
In your browser on this device, using local storage. Nothing is sent to a server and the titles you type are never shared with analytics. Clearing site data or switching browsers removes it, so use Export backup now and then.
How do I move my list to another phone or computer?
Choose Export backup (JSON) to download a small file, then open this page on the other device and choose Import backup. The import replaces the list on that device.
What if I finish a book in December but log it in January?
Use the finish date, not the day you log it. A book dated in a different year is kept in your list but is not counted toward the challenge year, and a note tells you how many were left out.
What are the optional prompts?
A short list of our own ideas, such as a book under 200 pages or a book from the bottom of your to-read pile. They are a nudge for picking your next read and do not change your goal or pace.
Is there a printable version?
Not on this page. This tracker is for logging on screen, with a backup file you can keep. You can also copy a text summary of your progress to paste into notes or a message.
