Short answer
A book title generator builds title ideas from words and patterns that suit your genre. Pick a genre and a mood, add up to three keywords, and you get ten titles. Lock the ones you like, get new ideas for the rest, then search each favorite on Amazon and Goodreads before you commit.
How to use it
- Choose your genre. Any genre mixes them all, which is handy when you are stuck.
- Pick a mood. It swaps in words with that feeling, like Hollow and Midnight for dark.
- Add up to three keywords from your story, such as an object or a place.
- Tap the lock on titles you like, then New ideas. Locked titles stay put.
- Save favorites to your list, then copy it, download it or share a link to your settings. Keywords stay out of the link.
How it works
Each genre has its own word lists (adjectives, nouns, places, people and verbs) and a set of title patterns that genre tends to use, alongside patterns every genre shares. The mood adds a second word list with that feeling. Keywords you type go into patterns built around them.
Title = a pattern for the genre + words picked from the genre and mood lists
Nonfiction and memoir = a short title + a subtitle that says what the reader gets
Every pick comes from a seed, so the same seed and inputs give the same title
Worked example: genre Mystery, mood Quiet, keyword lighthouse, seed 20260929. The generator gives "A Body in the Field". Change the mood to Dark and the same seed swaps in darker words from the mood list. Well-known titles our patterns could land on by chance, such as The Secret Garden, are skipped.

Questions authors ask
Can I use a title that another book already has?
In the US, yes as far as copyright goes: the Copyright Office says titles, names and short phrases are not protected by copyright. It is still a bad idea to copy a well-known title. Readers get confused, and KDP's metadata guidelines ban unauthorized references to other titles or authors.
How do I check if a book title is taken?
Search the exact title in quotes on Amazon, Goodreads and Google Books, and check the first page of a web search. If another book in your genre has it, pick a different one or add a subtitle that sets yours apart. Titles in other genres matter less.
How long can a book title be on KDP?
KDP says your title and subtitle together must be fewer than 200 characters. Most strong fiction titles are one to five words. Nonfiction often pairs a short title with a longer subtitle that says what the reader will get.
Can I put keywords or "bestselling" in my title?
Not on KDP. Its metadata guidelines ban references to sales rank such as "bestselling", promotions such as "free", and unauthorized references to other titles or authors. Stuffing generic keywords into the title is not allowed either. Keywords belong in the keyword fields.
Are these titles made by AI?
No. Each title is built from word lists and patterns we wrote for this page, picked with a seeded random number. Nothing is sent to a server, so the same seed always gives the same title. A share link carries your genre, mood and seeds, but never your keywords, so titles built from a keyword come out differently for whoever opens it.
Does the title have to match my cover?
For print books on KDP, yes: the title you enter must appear on the cover, on the front or the spine. Settle the title before you order cover design so you do not pay for changes.
How do I pick the best title from the list?
Save five or six you like, then say each one out loud and picture it on a thumbnail cover. Keep titles that are easy to spell and remember, fit the genre, and are not already used by a well-known book in your category.
